10 Commonly Missed Cleaning Spots

Quick And Easy Ways To Blitz Clean Your Home

Since cleaning is a chore that most of us prefer to get over and done with as quickly as possible, we often miss spots when we’re doing it. This is usually because we’ve either forgotten about them, or we don’t particularly care whether they’re clean because we can’t see them. But just because you can’t see dirt, doesn’t mean that it isn’t there!

Here are ten of the most commonly missed spots or areas when cleaning at home:

  1. Beneath the fridge

Your fridge might be sparkling clean on the inside, but you can bet your bottom dollar that there’ll be a layer of grease, grime and dust underneath it. While this area is usually never seen, it’s a good idea to clean it every couple of months, just to prevent bacteria from building up there, and the more often you do it, the less hard work it’ll be each time.

  1. Toothbrush holder

We keep our teeth nice and clean by brushing them twice daily, but we often don’t dry our brushes off properly after we’ve used them, meaning that water and residue drips down into the holder. Bacteria can easily build up in the bottom of the holder and spread to our brushes, so it’s a good idea to rinse it out with disinfectant at least once a week.

  1. Underneath sofa cushions

The sofa itself may appear to be clean, but what about what might be lurking underneath the cushions? Crumbs, dust, general debris and even coins are often found hiding there, and there’s nothing worse than reaching for the remote control between the cracks and pulling out a handful of questionable debris!

  1. The remote control(s)

Talking of remote controls, it’s easy to forget just how often we touch them, and not always with clean hands. There will be many bacteria found on the average remote control, but if you use a few q tips dipped in a disinfectant solution, you can really get in between all the buttons and eliminate any nasty germs.

  1. Under larger pieces of furniture

There will almost certainly be dust underneath large items of furniture that aren’t moved regularly, and as with other places that gather dust, the more frequently you clean them, the less hard work it is each time.

  1. The shower curtain

Showers are by their very nature damp places, and we all know that bacteria love to breed in such environments, so try to clean your shower curtain regularly with an antibacterial solution, or depending on what material it’s made from, you could pop it in the laundry machine with a mild detergent.

  1. Behind the toilet

Keeping with the bathroom theme, most of us maintain a certain standard of hygiene when it comes to the toilet, if we don’t do anything else, but we usually forget to extend our cleaning routine to the back of the toilet, where dust, grime and germs will almost certainly be hiding. Cleaning it every time you clean the rest of the toilet will prevent germs and dirt from building up there.

  1. Telephone buttons

In much the same way as the buttons on remote controls get grubby, the buttons on our telephones are real hubs for germs. These can also be cleaned by using a few q tips dipped in antibacterial solution to get in and around the buttons and the mouthpiece.

  1. Cutting boards

Depending on the type of chopping/cutting board that you use, leftover food and germs can quickly build up on the surface, so regularly soaking them in hot water with an antibacterial solution, will help to eliminate nasty food related bugs that can build up.

  1. Inside the dishwasher and laundry machine

These items are great at cleaning our dirty dishes and laundry, but we often neglect to clean the inside of the machines themselves. With both machines, running a hot bleach wash should eliminate all germs and bacteria and help them to function properly and hygienically.
