How To Eliminate Dust From Your Home

Quick And Easy Ways To Blitz Clean Your Home

Dust is ever present in our homes, no matter where we live or what type of property we live in, although some homes will be more prone to dust build ups than others. It looks bad and can even make us feel lousy by aggravating our allergies.

Cleaning dust from all visible surfaces is a good way to begin eliminating it from your home, and provided it’s done regularly this will certainly help prevent allergic reactions, but of course dust doesn’t just settle where we can see it. Before you can ever eliminate dust from your home fully, you need to find all the places where it likes to sit, and deal with it in the most efficient way possible.

  • Carpet and rug dust

While we usually vacuum our carpets frequently – and this will pick up the dust – they are known breeding grounds for dust and dirt and it can often be much simpler and more hygienic to get rid of them all and opt for floor tiles. If this isn’t an option, you should try to vacuum all carpets and rug in the home as often as possible, but ideally, at least once a week, and get them cleaned professionally at least once every 6 months.

  • Knick knacks, ornaments etc

Items left on display and exposed to the air, such as ornaments, vases and photographs, will automatically attract dust, and without regular cleaning, the dust will quickly form a layer on each item. While these items may look pretty in your home, if you have a dust allergy, you should probably consider getting rid of as many as these items as you can. Or place them inside a cabinet with a glass door.

  • Underneath furniture

While dust may not necessarily come to rest under your furniture by itself, it can still be found there, and often because a draught from a ceiling fan or an open window has blown it there. If you’re unable to move the furniture, simply use the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner to reach right under every item of furniture.

  • Behind stoves and refrigerators

As these items in our homes are bulky and hard to shift, we often forget that they might be dirty underneath or behind. Wherever possible, you should try to clean behind and under these items at least once every 6 months, a good vacuum cleaner with attachments should make the job easier.

  • Ceilings

We may not look upward too often, but if we do, we’d probably be confronted with quite a bit of dust and perhaps even the odd cobweb. A long-handled feather duster or a broom with a damp cloth (or one sprayed with furniture polish), draped over it should make this task easier, too. Don’t forget any light fittings and shades, as these are guaranteed to be covered in dust.

What other ways are there to eliminate dust from your home?

An air filter or purifier is a great way of helping to eliminate dust particles that might be floating about in the air, and these can be purchased at reasonable prices and come in a variety of makes, models and sizes.

Wear gloves when doing the dusting to help prevent leaving a trail of fingerprints on every surface or item that you dust. You can even spray furniture polish onto the tips of the gloves to help you clean more easily.

Tumble dryer sheets make fantastic dusting cloths, picking up dust and getting rid of any static to make it harder for dust particles to attach themselves to the surface.

Eliminating dust from your home may not be that difficult, but it must be done regularly. If you can’t face doing the dusting yourself, or simply don’t have the time, why not call in a professional cleaning company who will have your entire home dust free within a matter of hours.
