Money Saving Cleaning Tips

Money Saving Cleaning

In these often trying, financial times that we’ve all found ourselves in, the need for saving money when cleaning has never been more apparent. We don’t want to neglect our cleaning duties, but we don’t want to spend all our hard-earned wages on it, either.

Here are a few thrifty cleaning tips that you might find useful:

  • Use the right product, for the right job

If you’re using a certain cleaning product for a certain cleaning task, make sure that it will be successful first-time round. Reapplying the product because it didn’t work the first time, is time and money wasting.

  • Multi task with one product

Washing up detergent can be used for a multitude of cleaning jobs around the home, and can be applied on almost every surface in the kitchen, rubbed into stained clothes before you put them in the machine, and can even help keep your carpets clean. This product is cheap and goes a long way, and could save you time and money when you’re cleaning at home.

  • Save your laundry

Small loads in a machine are not energy efficient, and therefore cost you more money. Wait until you have enough laundry for a full load.

  • Be water conscious

Try to conserve water wherever possible, and making a concerted effort to do this will result in your water bill dropping significantly.

  • Thrifty may not always be natural

While we doubtless all want to try and use natural cleaning products wherever possible, the reality may sometimes be that this is not the most cost-effective approach. Take the amount of fresh lemons that you would need to buy to tackle the limescale in your bathroom; compare the cost of that with the cost of a lime scale removing product from the store, and you just might be surprised.

  • Purchase multi-purpose cleaning products

A product that can effectively tackle more than one cleaning problem in the home, is always going to be kinder on the purse strings than buying a separate product for every task.

  • Avail of discounts whenever possible

If your favourite cleaning product is on promotion, buy more of it. If you have coupons for a product, don’t be afraid to use them!

  • Clean daily

Taking the time to do a small amount of cleaning every day will not only prevent you from having to spend an entire day doing it – and probably on your one day off from work – but it could also save you money in a multitude of ways: from preventing you having to spend money on forms of relaxation due to cleaning fatigue, to encouraging you not to spend money on take outs, but instead to cook up something delicious in your lovely clean kitchen!

Save money on cleaning products wherever you can, but don’t scrimp on effort!
