Tips For A Sweet Smelling Home

Environment

One of the first things you’re likely to notice when you step over the threshold of someone’s home, or even as you stand on the doorstep, will be the aroma that greets your nostrils. If you’re returning home from work and your home has been unventilated all day, it may smell musty or have a whiff of whatever you last cooked, whether for your dinner the evening before, or for your breakfast that morning. Homes with pets will often have a doggy aroma without the home owners even noticing; visitors to the home that will be able to detect it and will doubtless take an instant disliking to it.

Whatever the aroma of your home, you want it to be a pleasant one, and you certainly don’t want to deter people from visiting you! With the following tips, ensure that your home smells fragrantly welcoming to one and all:

  • Get aerated

Whenever possible, leave some windows open (or doors if possible) to let some natural air circulate. You’ll find that not only will this make you feel better, but it will allow nasty whiffs to exit your home, and pleasing fresh air to enter.

  • Do some planting

Plants brighten up any home, but they can also be great for helping to filter and purify the air. Not only that, but the soil in the pots can absorb pongy odours and help prevent smells from hanging around.

  • Chop an onion

Believe it or not, half a fresh onion placed in a bowl on a counter or table, can help absorb nasty smells in the home, without omitting an aroma of its own, honest!

  • Burn the midnight oil

Okay, so you don’t need to burn oil at midnight, but with essential oils such as lemongrass, eucalyptus and peppermint, you can burn them in as many rooms of your home as you like, and within minutes your entire home will be smelling divine and inviting. If you don’t have an oil burner, you can add a few drops of the oil of your choice onto cotton wool balls, and place them in open jam jars around your home.

There are of course many more ways to make your home smell sweeter, these are just of our favourites, but remember that the best ways to freshen up the aroma of your home, are often the cheapest and most natural. Essential oils can be bought very cheaply and go a long way, and there are always lemons that can be used to clean your home and leave it smelling zesty, too.

One other way of ensuring that your home always smells fresh, is to clean it as often as possible. If your lifestyle is simply too busy and hectic, or you hate cleaning, then why not use the services of a maid cleaning company? There are some great ones out there, and they need not cost the earth, either.
