Could There Be Bacteria Ridden Hotspots All Over Your Home?

There will almost always be at least one area in the average person’s home that is dirtier than you think, and while this isn’t a pleasant thought, thankfully it’s easy to get them clean once you know how.

Take a look at these common areas of the home, and ask yourself whether you’re keeping them clean enough:

Door knobs and handles

Did you know that as many as 1 in 10 homeowners have never taken the time to clean the door handles in their homes? This is despite knowing how germs can easily be spread through touching such surfaces. To keep your handles clean, simply spray them down with your favorite multi-surface spray once or twice a week.

Light switches

Again, commonly touched and capable of retaining germs, light switches should be sprayed down with disinfectant on a regular basis.

Kettles and coffee pots

Used frequently but cleaned little, these items should be disinfected just as you would switches and door handles, and treating them for limescale will help keep their interiors clean, too.

Cloths and sponges

These can get really grubby, really quickly, especially in a busy kitchen where lots of cooking and food prep takes place. Change them regularly and wash them at a high temperature to kill germs.

Cutting boards

With the capacity to hold more bacteria than a toilet seat, cutting boards should be washed with hot soapy water every couple of days if used often, and more so if meat is prepped on them.

Electronics and laptops

Television and gaming controls should be cleaned weekly, and you can use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) as it will dry quickly and won’t cause any damage. Laptops also have the same capacity for hosting bacteria, and should be washed in the same way on a regular basis.

Cell phones

With the potential to be riddled with germs, cell phones and other handheld devices should be cleaned very often using alcohol wipes or with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

Sofa cushions

You can easily vacuum your sofa and cushions, so try to do so every week, and more often if pets and small children are using them. Anything detachable and which can be placed inside a washing machine, should be washed every few months to freshen them up and get rid of any germs that might be lingering there.

It’s easy to neglect cleaning some items and areas of your home as often as you should, but as it doesn’t take long to do, there’s really no excuse for not doing it. That said, if you do have a valid excuse, simply call in the pros and have a cleaning team come in a couple of times a week to make your home a bacteria-free zone.
