The Best Way to Clean Your Windows Inside and Out

With a simple and cost effective solution of one part white vinegar to two parts water (combined in a spray bottle), you can easily get your windows sparkling clean from the inside out, just by following the tips below:

For sparkling clean windows from the inside:

Even though your windows will likely be dirtier on the outside than they are in, it still requires a little effort to get them clean on the inside, too, and by following these tips, you can get the job done quickly:

Firstly, grab a bucket and fill it with cold water, before adding a few drops of dish soap. Place a large towel or sheet under the window to absorb any spillages.

Next, take a microfiber cloth or sponge (according to your preference) and wipe the windows down, frames included.

Then, take the solution that you’ve mixed together and spray the window thoroughly from top to bottom, before using a clean, lint-free towel (or paper towels if you prefer) to dry the window using a motion in the shape of a Z.

Lastly, if you can still see some streaks or grime, repeat the spraying and drying process once more. It’s not uncommon for many windows to require a second spraying and drying, so don’t worry, it isn’t a reflection (pardon the pun!) of your cleaning skills.

For sparkling clean windows from the outside:

Most homes will have windows that are much grubbier on the outside, than they are in, and for obvious reasons. Fortunately, these tips make getting them sparkling clean, a cinch:

Firstly, rinse the windows down with a hose (or bucket and jug), before filling a bucket with clean, cold water and adding a few drops of dish soap.

Next, take a microfiber cloth and wipe the surface of the window down, and for taller windows, you might need to use a long handled mop or sponge. Rinse them again with the hose.

Then, use your ready made solution to coat the windows before wiping them dry with a rubber based squeegee; try to angle the squeegee towards the bottom of the window and work systematically from top to bottom. It helps to wipe the squeegee clean after every pass, or you can use a lint-free towel or newspaper to dry them.

Lastly, if there are any stains that remain (and this is quite likely) soak them with vinegar and water and allow it to stand for a few minutes before wiping and drying, or gently rubbing at them with a soft, scrubby sponge that won’t scratch the window.

If your windows are really dirty and require a bit more elbow grease, or you simply don’t relish the prospect of cleaning them, why not have a residential cleaning service come in as and when required, to get the job done for you?

Whether you clean your windows yourself, or have someone else do it for you, the effort will be worth it, as clean windows can truly transform a home.
