9 Tips to Help Teenagers Keep Their Rooms Clean

Floor cleaning

Life can be tough for teenagers, even if as adults, we know deep down that life is only going to get tougher! With raging hormones and stress surrounding school or college, teenagers often struggle to find the energy, let alone the will to keep their rooms clean, and often require a lot of motivation from their parents or caregivers.

However, with these simple tips, you can help the teenagers in your home take better care of their personal spaces, and should they fail, you can simply call in the professionals!

Decide how much mess you can put up with

Teenagers are often messy, and that’s a fact that many parents either have to come to terms with, or attempt to change. The latter can be exhausting however, so it might be wiser to come to a compromise and decide upon just what level of messiness, is acceptable for you.

Get rid of all trash

Ideally, bagging up trash and taking it out should be done as often as needed, and some teems generate more trash than others. Once the trash has gone, cleaning becomes easier.

Make the bed

Non teenager will want to make their bed, but if they can try to do it every day, their space will instantly look tidier.

Declutter

Help your teenager get rid of anything they don’t need in their room, either by donating it, giving it away or putting it in the trash as appropriate. This means left things to dust or trip over!

Put clothes away

Clothes scattered around a room make it look a mess, and also make it difficult for your teen to find what they need and identify what is clean and freshly laundered, and what needs to be put in the laundry.

Tackle the big cleaning jobs first

If your teenagers room has been left a mess for a long time, it might be helpful to focus on the bigger cleaning jobs first, and get them out of the way. This might be vacuuming the carpet, dusting all surfaces, or cleaning underneath the bed.

Get dusting

While perhaps not necessarily enjoyable, dusting is a relatively quick and easy cleaning task, and if you can persuade your teenager to run a duster over the surfaces in their room at least once a week, then half the battle may be won.

Clean the floor

Once the dusting is done, the floor will need to be cleaned, and if your teen has decluttered and put all their unused and unwanted items away or donated them, this should be a simple and speedy task.

Getting your teenager to keep their spaces clean and tidy may not be as easy as the tips above make it seem, and if you’re struggling with messy bedrooms and junk all over the place from your wayward teen, why not hire a cleaning service to come in on a regular basis and make your home less like a hovel!
